Msc in Biotechnology    Back

Tel-Hai Academic College Course Type: Master taught Start Date: October
Location: Tel Hai, Israel Duration: Full time - 2 Years

Description

The M.S.c program in Biotechnology is the first program of its kind offered by an Israeli college. The program attracts graduates from Tel Hai’s B.S.c program and throughout the country.

Biotechnology is vital to many spheres of our daily lives. Biotechnologists are active in developing cures for and preventing many diseases, improving agricultural practices to produce better crops, and searching for solutions to environmental pollution to make cleaner energy from new sources.

Biotechnology studies are based in many disciplinary sciences including biology, agriculture, food science, and medicine. It draws on the pure biological sciences (biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, embryology, immunology, microbiology), and in many cases is also dependent on knowledge and methods from outside the sphere of biology including chemical engineering, bioprocess engineering, information technology, and bio-robotics.

Tel Hai was the first college in Israel to offer a B.Sc. degree in Biotechnology and is currently the only college to offer an M.Sc. degree in this field.

Academic Program

The program consists of four semesters, designed to impart in-depth knowledge and advanced studies in the different areas of Biotechnology. A key component of the program is active participation in laboratory programs, many of which are carried out in the labs of MIGAL Galilee Technology Center in nearby Kiryat Shemona, an applied research institute connected to the College, specializing in biotechnology, agriculture and environmental sciences.

The program offers students the choice of carrying out a research project combined with a thesis, potentially leading to a dissertation, or a research project without a thesis.

Over the course of their studies students can select from one of the following specializations:

  • General Biotechnology
  • Medical Biotechnology
  • Environmental Biotechnology
  • Agricultural Biotechnology

Purpose

The purpose of the program is to train and develop students wishing to pursue a career in Biotechnology in their chosen field of specialization, and to prepare students for graduate studies in Biotechnology.
