Description

The department of psychology welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates to undertake PhD research. Research in the department is a collaborative enterprise, being organised around four main research areas:

Neuroscience Research focuses on the biomechanical and neurophysiological mechanisms that underlie our perceptions. Behavioural measures are combined with EEG and fMRI to investigate the neural response to sounds.

Developmental Research comprises a wide range of topics, from applied developmental psychopathology to basic research on the foundations of memory, language, social, cognitive and motor development.

Cognitive Research is particularly strong in the core areas of memory, visual cognition, and thinking.

Social Psychology in studying the relationship between social identity and ideology, the development of social tension and violence, and the processes by which bonds of social responsibility and cohesion are established and maintained.
